We’re thrilled to officially welcome the First Citizens Bank of Butte team, customers, and community into the Frontier Credit Union family!

As of February 1st, 2026, the transition is complete, marking a major milestone for both of our organizations, and for Montana’s financial landscape. With this merger, Frontier Credit Union becomes the first credit union to fully acquire a bank in the state of Montana, combining First Citizens trusted, local service with Frontier’s expanded resources, technology and 90-year legacy and commitment to building better lives.

Why This Matters
For generations, First Citizens Bank of Butte has served the local community with care, integrity, and personalized service. Now, as part of Frontier Credit Union, that same commitment continues! Backed by a broader network, expanded services, and a mission to build better lives.

What You Can Expect
We know that transitions bring questions, so here’s a quick overview of what this means for you as a valued member:

  • No immediate changes to your account.
    You’ll continue using your current checks, debit/credit cards, and online banking tools just like always. Account numbers and services will remain the same until the full system conversion in August 2026, unless the account is converted to Frontier before that date.
  • More branch access.
    You now have access to all 15 of Frontier’s branch locations across Idaho, in addition to the Butte branch, which remains open and fully operational as our 16th location.
  • Expanded financial offerings.
    You’ll gain access to a broader suite of products and services like mortgage lending, auto loans, credit cards, investment tools, and enhanced digital banking experiences.
  • Deposits remain federally insured.
    Your funds continue to be safe and insured, now covered by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF) under the NCUA, with the same $250,000 per account category insurance limit.
  • We’ve got your membership covered.
    To make the transition simple, Frontier will fund the required $5 savings account for each First Citizens Bank of Butte customer who doesn’t already have one. That’s your entry into Frontier membership at no cost to you. To migrate your accounts over to Frontier Credit Union, you will need to call 406-494-4400 to schedule an in-person appointment or virtual appointment.

Same Friendly Faces. New Resources Behind Them.
There are no changes to staff or hours at the Butte branch. The same friendly, familiar team you’ve trusted for years is still here to serve you now with even more tools, technology, and support from Frontier Credit Union.
