In a major step toward preparing the next generation of innovators, Frontier Credit Union, the College of Eastern Idaho (CEI), and Battelle Energy Alliance (BEA)—operator of the Idaho National Laboratory—have come together to launch a game-changing initiative on the CEI campus: the Future Tech Building. But this isn’t just about a new facility. It’s about a shared commitment to equipping Idaho’s students with the skills and opportunities they’ll need to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.
A Purpose-Driven Partnership
The partnership was officially unveiled at a special event on CEI’s campus, drawing support from community leaders, educators, and state officials. BEA, CEI, and Frontier Credit Union aren’t just backing a construction project, they’re investing in people, in potential, and in the long-term success of Eastern Idaho.
At the center of the initiative is the Future Tech Building—an 88,000-square-foot, two-story facility that will house cutting-edge classrooms, labs, and the Frontier Conference Center. Built for hands-on, real-world learning, it will support career tracks in cybersecurity, nuclear energy, clean technology, mechatronics, and other high-demand fields. When it opens in the Fall of 2026, it’s expected to serve over 1,000 students each year.
Frontier Scholarship Program: Supporting Students Beyond the Classroom
Frontier Credit Union’s role in this partnership goes well beyond the physical building. To expand its impact, the credit union is also launching two key programs: the CEI VISA® Spirit Card and the Frontier Scholarship Program.
The CEI Spirit Card, available as both a debit and credit card, makes it easy for community members to support students. Every time the card is used, 100% of the interchange revenue goes directly to CEI’s Frontier Scholarship Fund, helping students pursuing STEM degrees, pay for school.
It’s a simple way for anyone to make a difference. Just by making everyday purchases. The debit card has no monthly fees and offers instant issue options, while the credit card helps users build or rebuild credit with competitive rates. Both are compatible with digital wallets and can be used at ATMs nationwide.
Launching in Fall 2025, the Frontier Scholarship Program will award annual scholarships to CEI students, with preference given to Frontier Credit Union members and graduates of the BEA Applied STEM Institute. It’s a powerful step toward leveling the playing field for students who might not otherwise have access to these kinds of opportunities.
A Bold Vision for Idaho’s Future
The Future Tech Building, the CEI VISA® Spirit Card, and the Frontier Scholarship Program all share one goal: to build a stronger, more resilient future for Eastern Idaho. This partnership between education, industry, and community is not only addressing immediate workforce needs, but it’s laying the groundwork for long-term economic growth and innovation.
