About the change
What changes are happening?
Both First Citizens and Frontier want to better serve our community. First Citizens saw that partnering with Frontier would help it grow and offer more to customers, all while keeping the personal, local service you trust. Frontier has more resources and services it can share, and First Citizens brings deep local experience and relationships. By joining forces, we believe we can do more for you, our employees, and our community.
How large is Frontier and where are they located?
Frontier Credit Union is headquartered in Idaho Falls, Idaho. It has been around since 1935 and is well-established in the region with multiple branch locations. As a Frontier customer, you’ll also have access to a nationwide network of thousands of surcharge-free ATMs through the CO-OP network. In short, Frontier is a strong local credit union with a broad reach to serve your needs.
When will the signage change at the First Citizens branch?
You can expect to see the First Citizens branch rebranded with Frontier’s name and signs very shortly after the merger is finalized. In fact, the plan is to update the signage within the first few days of February 2026. So, you’ll see the Frontier Credit Union name on the building very soon after everything is complete.
Will employee emails or phone numbers change?
The branch’s phone number will not change. After the transition, our staff will receive new Frontier email addresses (for example, ending in @frontiercreditunion.com), but that change may take a bit of time to roll out. During the changeover and even after, any emails or calls to the current First Citizens contacts will still reach us. We want to make sure you can easily get in touch with the same people you know, without any hassle.
People and locations
Will there be changes to the staff I know?
We don’t expect any major staffing changes at this time. The same friendly folks you’ve come to know at First Citizens will continue to be there to help you, just as part of the Frontier team now. The First Citizens branch in Butte will remain open and will become a Frontier Credit Union branch. As our teams come together, there might be a few small adjustments behind the scenes, but our focus is on working together to keep serving local families and businesses just like we always have.
Who will be the President/CEO?
Frontier’s current President and CEO, Dan Thurman, will continue to serve as the President/CEO after the transition. This means the combined organization will have the same leadership guiding it forward, providing stability and continuity.
Will there be changes to the Board of Directors?
Frontier’s Board of Directors will stay the same, with no planned changes. The First Citizens board will continue to oversee First Citizens’ operations until the acquisition is complete, then they will step aside once everything is finalized. In other words, once the acquisition is wrapped up on February 1, 2026, Frontier’s existing board will govern the credit union going forward.
Are any locations closing?
No. We are not closing any branches as a result of this acquisition. The First Citizens Bank of Butte location will remain open and simply become one of Frontier’s branch locations. We’re adding this branch to Frontier’s network of locations, so you’ll gain the benefits of Frontier’s other branches without losing your local office in Butte.
